I first encountered today’s idea from the ground-breaking book, A BEAUTIFUL CONSTRAINT by Adam Morgan and Mark Barden. So many of us say things like “That’s not possible because….” or “we can’t because….” They suggest and I promote adopting a new approach.
Think about a current challenge and consider what you and your team can say after these few words, “We can if….”
There is life, there is possibility, in “can if” and there is limited energy and minimal hope in “can’t because.” What changes in your organization when your people look for answers rather than identify barriers? What changes for you, for them, when you lead with, “We can if….”?
