Picture a sliding scale with the word “support” at one end and “challenge” at the other. I wonder where your key people would place you on this continuum. It’s hard to find a healthy mid-point on this scale. Many tend to under-support their people and over-challenge them: many others over-support and under-challenge. People will perform at their highest level when their leader has found the balance.

Question:

Where are you on this scale? Do your people feel over-supported and under-challenged? Why do you think that? Or, do you challenge with passion and accountability but leave individuals feeling under-supported? Now…specifically…what one thing will you start doing AND what one thing will you stop doing to bring this notion into balance?
