A friend of mine runs an outstanding non-profit organization in Calgary. He has a large staff of younger people which means staff turnover is fairly constant. Yet, somehow his team gets stronger every year. The secret – he replaces every staff member that leaves with someone of higher capability; he “hires up” at every opportunity.

Question:

Is “hiring up” an organizational value, a spoken corporate intention, for you? What increased impact will you experience when every departing employee is replaced with someone of higher capacity? What must change in your organization’s culture and systems to make this happen? When will you start?
