Sometimes well-meaning leaders are just plain boring. Why do they think that PowerPoint slides loaded with data, statistics and pie charts will win me over to their initiative? What I need is a good story or two. Leader, I respond best when I hear how your efforts work for someone. Only then, when I have a question, am I ready for your stats about breadth and reach. And still, no matter how impressive the numbers, I’m more likely to remember and re-tell your story.

Question:

What one or two real stories illustrate the difference you are making for clients? What presentation or publication are you working on this week where you will shift the focus from numbers to narrative? What anecdote do you want people to retell when the conversation turns to your industry or organization; how will you find it and fine tune it?
