“Our ears are alive.”

I heard those sparkling words yesterday from an entrepreneur talking about his customers. He knows them. He knows what makes them tick. He knows how he can support them. He knows because he hears. He is highly successful because his “ears are alive.”

Hmmmm. It makes me think.

Can you say it – “my ears are alive?”

Do you hear your customers? Do you hear what they are saying? Do you hear what they are not saying? Do you hear what they want you to know? Do you hear what they are afraid to tell you? Do you hear how hard it is to do business with you (or how easy)? Do you hear what might make them even more successful?

Do you hear your team members? Do you hear how they feel appreciated? Do you hear what they hope for? Do you hear what they need to be more productive? Do you hear how they are best-managed? Do you hear how you help them soar? Do you hear how you hold them back? Do you hear when they don’t feel heard?

And it goes on. Do you hear your suppliers and partners? Do you hear your colleagues and competitors? Do you hear your friends? Do you hear yourself?

Our ears are alive – something to strive for this fall.

I’ve always found some wisdom in the saying.

“Take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth”
